I was a very intuitive kid and could sense even the slightest change in the energy of those around me. My intuition, coupled with a thirst for anatomy knowledge, made understanding and listening to the body second nature for me.
As a young healer my first instinct was to choose a career in healthcare. I dove into the world of Medical Imaging. I was fascinated by the technology and enamored by the concept that I would play an integral part in getting people the diagnosis and treatment they need. I wanted to learn about every different part of Medical Imaging from X-rays, to CT scans, mammograms, and MRIs.
After 7 years working in the field and countless hours of continued education, I still didn’t feel fulfilled. I became frustrated with seeing people in pain everyday and the number of cases that came back without explanation of that pain.
It seemed like everything in my life was pushing me out of this career. I wanted to understand the body better than what is seen in the images. I wanted to be challenged each and everyday with new and exciting puzzles (anatomical anomalies). I wanted a more hands on and holistic approach to healing and I wanted an explanation for why so many people have undiagnosed, unexplained and therefore untreated pain. I listened to the Universe and took the leap. I went back to school and chased a career that would fulfill me intellectually and spiritually.
~ CALGARY MANUAL OSTEOPATH & EMOTIONAL RELEASE SPECIALIST ~
After well-over a decade of debilitating back pain I had been to massage, acupuncture, physio, yoga, and chiro, I wasn't sleeping, I couldn't exercise, and I was in pain 24 hrs a day. I had increasingly turned to muscle relaxants to manage the pain and sleep deprivation. Then I met Jill. She's changed my life in such a short amount of time. She quickly figured out my back pain was ligament tightness related to pregnancy and childbirth. In only 2 sessions Jill has left me pain free. I keep waking up every morning amazed that I have no pain and refreshed from a good night sleep! If there is one professional service, you must have its osteo with Jill. (Not all osteopaths are as talented as Jill.) All women postpartum should insist on osteo as part of the recovery process. The best part is it is completely NOT invasive - such a nice way to reset the body.
Jillian isn’t just an amazing intuitive, her heart is in alignment with her skill set. I will forever be grateful for the day she first met with me because my healing began that day! I truly believe if I had met with anyone other than Jillian my life would’ve been on hold. She sees you and feels you for exactly where you are and she holds all the love and light to help move past that space physically mentally and emotionally.
Having been an elite athlete, friends and family often come to me for advice about who to see when they’re injured. If they are lucky enough to live in the same city as my friend and osteopath Jill Dean, I tell them to go see her!
While competing at the highest level in my sport of Olympic weightlifting, maintaining mobility and managing injuries was my key to success. Of all the healthcare practitioners I worked with during my sports career, I found that osteopaths had the largest impact on helping me achieve my goals. Now, as I adapt to a healthy active lifestyle and transition away from being a specialized athlete, I find Osteopathy has really helped me break free of old movement patterns and participate in new activities pain-free. Just recently Jill helped me recover from a concussion. Not only did she help me manage the symptoms, but she took away my anxiety around recovery. I can’t say enough about Jill and the Osteopathic treatments she provides!
Educational Background
In 2009 I graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Health Science and a Diploma in Radiologic Technology. I worked from 2009 until 2016 as an X-ray Technologist. During this time I completed my certification in Computed Technology and Mammography through the CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiologic Technologists).
When I decided to go back to school to become a Manual Osteopath, I moved to Alberta to attend the National Manual Osteopathic College (NMOC).
I completed 1952 hours of combined classroom and clinical work to earn my DOMP (Diploma of Osteopathy Manual Practitioner) license and became a member in good standing with the National Manual Osteopathic Society (NMOS).
Since graduating in 2017 I have continued my education with several advanced courses in Craniosacral therapy and Visceral Manipulation taught by the International Alliance of Healthcare Educators (IAHE).
Osteopathy is not only a whole body approach to healing but a whole life approach. I understand that some body tension and pain can be caused by stress, unexpressed emotions, or traumas from the past. I have taken several steps to make sure I am equipped to help you through this healing journey.
These steps include “Existential Well-being Counseling: A Person-centered Experiential Approach” from KULeuvenX. Level one Healing Touch. “Unwinding the meridians” - integrating Chinese medicine principles into craniosacral therapy. And finally, I am a licensed and Integrated Medicine Woman; Certified by the New Haven Native American Church.
